This page explains how the BIMAS website uses cookies and similar tools, in line with the cookie guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante, June 2021).
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser to remember some information. They can be technical (needed for the site to work) or profiling cookies (used for advertising or to follow you across websites).
Our site: no profiling cookies
When you browse as a visitor, the site does not set any cookies. We do not use profiling or advertising cookies, Google Analytics or “Like” buttons that track visitors. That is why we do not ask for consent with a banner: according to the Garante, consent is only needed for non-technical cookies.
Technical tools we use
- Read counter (browser session storage): when you open an article, your browser remembers for that session only that it has already been counted, so the same visit is not counted twice in the “Most read” list. The data stays on your device, contains no personal information and is deleted when you close the tab.
- Comment cookies (only if you choose): if you leave a comment and tick the box to save your details, your browser stores your name and email for one year, so you don’t have to type them again next time.
- Admin area cookies: only for BIMAS editors who log in to manage the site; they keep you signed in and expire after a few days.
External services
Fonts are hosted on our own server, so browsing sends no data to Google Fonts. The share buttons (Facebook, X, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, email) are plain links: no data is sent to those services until you click one. The site is hosted by Hostinger, which also provides some technical resources of the platform.
How to manage cookies
You can view and delete cookies in your browser settings (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). Blocking cookies does not stop you from reading the site; it may only stop it from remembering your comment details.
Updates
If we later add services that use non-technical cookies (for example maps, videos or statistics), we will update this page and, where required, ask for your consent before turning them on.
