Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026

This notice explains what personal data the BIMAS website collects, why we use it, how long we keep it and what your rights are. It is provided under Article 13 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is BIMAS – Bangladesh Immigrants’ Association Italy. For any privacy question, write to bimasitaly@gmail.com.

2. What data we collect and why

Browsing the website

When you visit the site, the server automatically records some technical data (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser type). This is needed to run the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use it to identify or profile you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site working and secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

For the “Most read” list, the site counts article views anonymously: only the total number of reads is stored, not who read them.

Contact form

We collect your first name, last name, email, phone number (optional), topic and message, and use them only to answer your request. Legal basis: your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Membership request

We collect your first name, last name, email, phone number (optional), city, province, the activities you would like to join and any message. We use them to assess your request and manage your membership. Legal basis: the membership you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Newsletter

We collect only your email address, to send you community news and updates. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time by writing to us or using the unsubscribe link in our emails.

Comments

If you leave a comment, we store your name, email, the comment text, your IP address and browser type, to moderate comments and prevent spam. Your name and comment are public; your email is not. Legal basis: your consent to publication and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse (Art. 6(1)(a) and 6(1)(f) GDPR).

We do not ask for sensitive data (for example about health, religion or legal proceedings). Please do not include it in your messages: if we need it to help you with a procedure, we will tell you and ask for your specific consent.

3. How long we keep your data

  • Contact requests: as long as needed to answer and follow up, and no longer than 24 months after the last contact.
  • Memberships: for the duration of your membership and, after it ends, for as long as the law requires.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Comments: as long as the comment stays published, or until you ask us to delete it.
  • Technical browsing data: only as long as needed for security, according to the hosting provider’s settings.

4. Who can see your data

Your data is handled by the BIMAS volunteers and officers in charge of answering requests. The site is hosted by Hostinger (Hostinger International Ltd., Cyprus), which acts as a data processor under a GDPR-compliant agreement. We do not sell or give your data to third parties and we do not use it for advertising.

If a provider processes data outside the European Union, this happens only with the safeguards required by the GDPR, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

5. Your rights

At any time you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, restrict its use, receive it in a readable format (portability) and object to processing based on legitimate interest (Articles 15–22 GDPR). If you gave consent, you can withdraw it whenever you want; this does not affect processing already carried out. Write to bimasitaly@gmail.com: we reply within 30 days.

If you believe your data is not being handled correctly, you can file a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it).

6. Minors

The site’s forms are meant for adults. For children under 14, the request must be made by a parent or legal guardian.

7. Cookies

The site does not use profiling cookies or third-party analytics tools. Full details are in the Cookie Policy.

8. Changes

We may update this notice if the site’s services or the law change. The date of the latest update is shown at the top.
