Working legally in Italy from Bangladesh is possible, but there is only one path, and it runs through the work-permit decree (decreto flussi). Knowing it helps you spot false promises.
The steps
- The employer in Italy files the online application on the set day (click day), within the year’s quotas.
- The Prefecture’s immigration desk checks the company’s requirements and issues the work authorisation (nulla osta).
- The worker books an appointment and applies for a visa at the Italian Embassy in Dhaka, with passport and authorisation.
- Within 8 days of arriving in Italy, the worker signs the residence contract at the immigration desk and applies for a residence permit.
Why there were so many delays
In October 2024, through Decree-Law 145, Italy suspended authorisations issued to citizens of some countries, including Bangladesh, because of the high number of forged documents. By mid-2025 more than 8,000 of nearly 40,000 pending cases had been resolved. New authorisations, the embassy says, are processed faster.
Golden rules
- Pay only official fees: paying brokers can lead to visa cancellation.
- The worker should not “buy” a contract: the procedure is the company’s cost.
- Check the company (VAT number, address, activity) and be wary of anyone telling you to hide things from the embassy.
About 10,000 Bangladeshis arrived legally for work in 2025: the regular route exists and works for those with a genuine employer.
