The universal child allowance (assegno unico) is INPS’s monthly payment for each dependent child up to age 21 (with no age limit for children with disabilities). According to the Labour Ministry’s 2025 report, Bangladeshi families make up 8.1% of non-EU recipients.

How much in 2026

  • €203.80 a month per minor child with an ISEE up to €17,468.51.
  • €58.30 with an ISEE of €46,582.71 or more, or without an ISEE.
  • A 50% increase for children under one; further increases for families with three or more children, and a flat €150 for those with at least four.

Who can apply

Eligible applicants include holders of an EU long-term residence permit, a single work permit or a family permit, as well as refugees and protection holders. The applicant must be subject to income tax in Italy. In 2026, after a ruling by the EU Court of Justice, the rules were extended to some workers with children in other EU countries.

Deadlines

  • You apply once and the application stays valid: just update your details if something changes.
  • The ISEE (household means assessment) must be renewed every year: submit it by 28 February to receive the full amount straight away; by 30 June to get arrears.
  • Without an ISEE you only receive the minimum amount.

The ISEE is calculated free of charge at a CAF. Bring income documents, rental contract, account balances and IDs for every household member.
