In fiscal year 2025-26, which ended on 30 June, Bangladesh received a record US$35.56 billion in remittances, up from $30.33 billion the previous year (about +17%), according to Bangladesh Bank. March 2026 set an all-time monthly high of $3.75 billion.
Incentive confirmed
Presenting the budget on 11 June, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury confirmed the 2.5% incentive on remittances sent through legal banking channels for 2026-27 as well.
Italy’s weight
Bangladesh is the top destination for remittances leaving Italy. According to the Labour Ministry’s 2025 report on the Bangladeshi community, €1,397 million was sent from Italy to Bangladesh in 2024 — 16.9% of the total, up 19.8%. Rome accounts for 22% of these transfers and Milan for 10%. The average cost of sending €150 is 3.02%.
Practical tips
- Use banks, post offices or licensed operators: the incentive applies only to official channels.
- Compare fees and the exchange rate, not just the fixed charge.
- Avoid hundi: it is illegal and protects neither sender nor recipient.
