Every year the Italian Embassy in Dhaka issues 12,000–13,000 family reunification visas. Anyone legally resident in Italy can ask to bring their spouse, minor children and, under certain conditions, dependent adult children and parents. Here is what you need.

1. Income

Minimum income is calculated on the social allowance, worth €7,101.12 a year in 2026:

  • 1 family member: €10,651.68
  • 2 family members: €14,202.24
  • 3 family members: €17,752.80
  • 4 family members: €21,303.36
  • each additional person: €3,550.56.

The income of legally resident family members living with you can be added.

2. Housing

You need a housing suitability certificate from the municipality, confirming the home meets health and space standards.

3. The authorisation (nulla osta)

The application is made online to the Prefecture’s immigration desk (Sportello unico) via the Interior Ministry portal. The desk checks the requirements and issues the authorisation.

4. Visa and arrival

With the authorisation, the family member applies for a visa at the embassy in Dhaka, presenting legalised civil status certificates. Within 8 days of arriving in Italy they must go to the immigration desk to sign the application for a family residence permit.

Watch out: birth and marriage certificates must be consistent with each other and with the passport. Errors in names or dates are the main cause of delays.
